Sample Classes

  • Popular Classes

    • Pet Project

Build a custom cat scratch pad or dog food bowl holder. We can accomodate other pets upon request. Fish might be difficult. We will have simple, sample shapes for you to use for the cat scratcher. The bowl holders are designed to keep Fido's food from scooting across the room. We can also raise the bowls for older pooches with neck pain. If you're interested in making one, please bring the bowls you use (best option) or trace the outline of the bowl and measure its height. Kids are welcome at this workshop. However, we use some sharp tools (exacto knives and box cutters) and ask that any child be accompanied by a parent for their fingers' sake. All proceeds from workshops support the Adaptive Design's mission to build custom equipment for children with disabilities.

      $35.00
    • Never Sit Still Workshop

Sit, spin, lean and wiggle on your own tippy stool. All the fun of sitting on an exercise ball, without chasing it as it rolls across the office. If you want to make a tippy stool for someone else, please take the height of a chair that allows them to sit with their feet flat on the ground. If their feet dangle, they'll tip over. All proceeds from workshops supports our mission to build custom equipment for children with disabilities.

      $45.00
    • Makerspace sessions

These makerspace sessions are three hours of open time for you to come use our workspace, tools and construction advice. If you've been thinking about a project, but don't have the space to work on it, come and work with us. Build a side table, a custom toy, a jig or prototype you're not sure how to make, or an adaptation to something in your home. Material costs for cardboard, glue and dowels will depend on the project, but we can give you an estimate if you send a description ahead of time. We have tools to work with wood, mdf, and bend acrylic, but do not provide those materials. All proceeds from workshops support the Adaptive Design's mission to build custom equipment for children with disabilities.

      $20.00
    • Pop-up Standing Desks

In this workshop, you'll make a collapsible standing laptop desk to use wherever you go. Bring a picture of your workspace as it is and the height of your existing desk so we can address specifics. This workshop is non-accredited. All proceeds from the class supports our mission of building custom equipment for children with disabilities.

      $35.00
    • Origami Mobile Making

Animate your ceiling! Make a mobile for a baby or yourself. Learn how to fold geometric shapes as well as simple origami to create a dynamic hanging sculpture. We'll look at high contrasting colors for infants and low vision children. Children are welcome to participate if accompanied by a parent. Supplies are provided. This workshop is non-accredited. All proceeds from the class support the Adaptive Design Association's mission of building custom equipment for children with disabilities.
